Foreign Investment Survey will be administered to sampled enterprises in Kenya with international transactions. The survey seeks to measure and monitor national statistics on stocks and flows of inward and outward foreign investments during calendar years 2009, 2010 and 2011. The survey will also capture information on investor perceptions on the business environment that might affect decision making for investment and business activity. \nThe specific objectives of the survey are to: \n\u2022 Provide necessary information to guide policy response to private capital flows; \n\u2022 Collect data for assessment of investors' perception of the investment climate with a view to identifying ways to improve it; \n\u2022 Facilitate the harmonization of Balance of Payments Statistics with other East African Community (EAC) partner states; \n\u2022 Facilitate compliance with international standards in data monitoring and presentation and; \n\u2022 Provide quality information for international institutions and researchers. \nGiven the technical nature of the data required, it will be necessary for the information to be provided by Chief Executive Officers or equivalent in cooperation with the Finance Manager, Accountant or equivalent. \nThe findings from FIS2013 will have considerable advantages to stakeholders both in the public and private sectors, which include: \n\u2022 A national database of stocks and flows of inward and outward foreign investment and related financial instruments for the reference periods 2009, 2010 and 2011; \n\u2022 Improved quality of Balance of Payments Statistics that meets international standards; \n\u2022 Availability of data for compilation of the International Investment Position (IIP); \n\u2022 Information on the direction of foreign direct investment and other investments; \n\u2022 Information on investor perception of the investment climate in the country and; \n\u2022 Useful information to international institutions and researchers to facilitate research on topical issues.","coll_dates":[{"start":"2013","end":"","cycle":""}],"nation":[{"name":"Kenya","abbreviation":"Ken"}],"analysis_unit":"Companies with foreign assets and liabilities\nBanks and other Financial institutions","data_kind":"Sample survey data [ssd]"},"method":{"data_collection":{"time_method":"Data collection exercise took 60 days from February to March 2010. The information sought through FIS questionnaire was general information of the enterprises, data on foreign liabilities and assets, international trade in services for the period 2007 and 2008 and investor perceptions on the investment climate in the country.","coll_mode":"Data collection exercise took 60 days from February to March 2013. The survey involved distribution of questionnaires to respondents and face-to-face interviews and extensive follow-up. The overall survey process was overseen by a national coordinator assisted by three regional coordinators.  A total of thirty six research assistants, organized into twelve teams, were deployed to administer the questionnaires. Each team comprised three research assistants and a supervisor. The teams were deployed according to the estimated concentration of the target enterprises to be covered within a particular area. The Research Assistants visited the enterprises and explained to the respondents how to fill the questionnaires. The questionnaires were then left with the respondents, and were collected later on a mutually agreed date. In some instances the Research Assistants were required to extract some information from enterprises' books of account and\/or financial statements. Field editing was also done by the Research Assistants prior to submitting the completed questionnaires to the Supervisor."}}}}
