The survey explored the health-seeking behaviour, use of healthcare services, out-of-pocket health spending, and health insurance coverage of Kenyan households. The Kenya Ministry of Health (MoH), with support from the USAID-funded Health Policy Project and in conjunction with the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), conducted the 2013 KHHEUS to provide critical evidence to inform the development of the new health financing strategy. Survey findings will also inform policy decisions related to the future universal health coverage and the National Hospital Insurance Fund. The 2013 KHHEUS also provides information that supports the wider national health accounts estimation process.","coll_dates":[{"start":"2013-07-09","end":"2013-08-14","cycle":""}],"nation":[{"name":"KENYA","abbreviation":"KEN"}],"geog_coverage":"National County Rural\/Urban","analysis_unit":"National, County Urban and Rural areas","universe":"All members in selected Households","data_kind":"Sample survey data [ssd]"},"method":{"data_collection":{"data_collectors":[{"name":"Kenya National Bureau of Statistics","abbreviation":"KNBS ","affiliation":"Ministry of Devolution and Planning"},{"name":"National AIDS and STI Control Programme","abbreviation":"NASCOP","affiliation":"Ministry of Health"}],"sampling_procedure":"The 2013 KHHEUS sampling strategy was designed to generate national and county estimates for all survey areas. The National Sample Survey and Evaluation Programme (NASSEP) master sample, which was developed using a multistage sampling design and maintained by KNBS,was used to select the representative clusters and households. Using the master sample, a total of 33,675 households were drawn from 1,347 selected clusters and divided into 814 (60%) rural and 533 (40%) urban clusters. \n\nThis sample was constructed to allow for estimates of key indicators at national and county levels for each of the 44 counties (covered by the survey), as well as for urban and rural domains. At the time of the survey, the KNBS had not updated the NASSEP master frame to include Mandera, Wajir, and Garissa counties, so these counties were not included in the survey.","coll_mode":"Face-to-face [f2f]","act_min":"Data collection teams were regularly supervised by teams of national supervisors with representation from different KAIS 2012 collaborating institutions. Supervision reports were circulated to the KAIS 2012 technical working group for response to any issues."}},"data_access":{"dataset_use":{"conf_dec":[{"txt":"Data shall be used for statistical purposes only and not for investigation of specific individuals or organizations or any other purpose. \n\nNo attempt shall be made to produce links among datasets provided by KNBS, or among data from the KNBS and other datasets with a view to\nidentifying individuals or organizations.","required":"yes","form_no":"","uri":""}],"contact":[{"name":"Director General","affiliation":"KNBS","email":"directorgeneral@knbs.or.ke","uri":"www.knbs.or.ke"}],"cit_req":"The data users shall acknowledge that any available intellectual property rights, including copyright in the data are owned by the KNBS.
