This question applies to all members of the household aged 10 years and above (10+ years). The question probes the main activity of all the eligible members. Main activity means the dominant one in terms of time spent per day on the activity.

Definition of Economic Status:

Food/Subsistence person engaged in the production of food crops for home consumption

Pastoralist person engaged in animal husbandry

Export oriented This refers to the crops that are grown for export purpose such as coffee, tea, pyrethrum etc

Cash crop These are crops grown for selling purposes. They need not to be necessarily for export.

Landless Casual worker person who does casual work and doesn't own any land e.g. squatters.

Unskilled public sector worker: person employed by the public sector (Government) who does not have training in any specialized skill. These include all those collectively referred to as subordinate workers (e.g. messengers, sweepers etc).

Formal private sector worker: All persons who are regular wage/salary earners employed in the private sector such as in industrial establishments.

Informal private sector worker: All those in Jua-Kali sector.

Inactive or Unemployed a person who is not working because (i) he/she has no job, (ii) beyond employment age, or (iii) cannot work because of disabilities (mental, physical etc).
