West Pokot County lies in the former Rift Valley province and covers an area of 9169 km2 with a population of 512690 persons3 and a growth rate of 3.1%. It borders Uganda to the West, Trans-Nzoia to the South West, Elgeyo Marakwet to the South East, Turkana to the North East and Baringo to the South East. The county has four livelihood zones namely; pure pastoral (33%), agro-pastoral (37%) and mixed farming (30%)4. The county is characterized by four seasons; Short dry season (January- February), Long rains season (March to end of June), Long dry season (July to September) and Short rains season (October to December).
