Abstract
Kenya aims to become a middle-income country by 2030 delivering a high quality of life to all. This demands sustained, long-term productivity improvement through building human capital
and adopting improved technologies. But it also means ensuring that all Kenyans participate in this process both as a means and also as an end in itself. We don't just need growth, we need growth which is inclusive. When we look at the myriad ways in which finance influences the development of the economy and people's livelihoods, it is clear that if growth is to be inclusive then so must finance. What this means in practical terms is not as obvious as it might first seem.
