The Survey started in 2010 and supposed to done in 2 phases in a year. This is the first round.
Abstract
The main objective of the study is to collect, collate and analyse data relating to occupancy by country of residence in cottages, bandas, campsites and apartments.

The specific objectives of the study will be to;
· The available capacity in the above set-ups;
· The turnovers in villas, cottages, campsites, apartments and bandas by guests;
· The type of seasonality in occupancy existing in the venues above;
· The nature of employment (permanent/temporal);
· The nature of guests, whether local or international; and

The report contain among others, the:

· number of establishments under each category
· capacity under each category
· occupancy levels under each category
· employment numbers
· average turnover from these establishment

Supervision
A team of three regional coordinators was formed and mandated to ensure all the areas are covered. In the field, the teams worked closely with the Regional Tourist Officers (under the MoT) and the District Statistical Officers (under KNBS) who ensured facilities of interest were covered. These officers also assisted in identifying the establishments of interest.
Data Collection Notes
The study covered all the establishments falling under the category of Cottages, Villas, Campsites and Apartments. In order to comprehensively understand and identify the facilities, the study was a collaboration involving key Government players. These were KNBS, MoT and KTB. In order to cover the entire country within minimum time, thirty six research assistants and twelve supervisors were trained on the survey techniques. These were later grouped into twelve teams comprising three Research Assistants (RAs), one driver and one Supervisor. The twelve teams were thereafter assigned different parts of the country such that they covered all the areas of interest. A team of three regional coordinators was formed and mandated to ensure all the areas are covered. Questionnaires

Questionnaires
The questionnaires were structured like the hotel questionnares. Six questionnaires ( one questionnaire per month) were administred to each establishment to the Managers to fill or designated respondents. Published in English. See the full qeustionnare in the External Resources.

Access conditions
The following general cost-sharing principles will apply to the dissemination of data:
a. Open access data (Public use) - data posted in the KNBS website for download will be available at no charge.
b. Registered access (Licensed) data - data will be availed to sponsors as per agreement between the sponsor and KNBS. A sponsor is any party who contributes directly either materially or financially towards a data production process.
c. Users requesting for specialized services are expected to negotiate and agree on a cost-recovery agreement with the Director General.
d. KNBS may levy fees on statistical information products depending on the type of product, effort expended and the dissemination medium
Citation requirements
The data users shall acknowledge that any available intellectual property rights, including copyright in the data are owned by the KNBS. The data user or client is encouraged to provide KNBS with a copy of such report, paper or article.
